Sonoma Wire Works Acquires Discrete Drums Brand & Multitrack Recording Libraries

Sonoma Wire Works, makers of RiffWorks recording software and the FourTrack and InstantDrummer iPhone Apps, has acquired the Discrete Drums brand and product line of drum recording libraries. This move will ensure the continuation and expansion of impeccable drum library products for both Discrete Drums and Sonoma Wire Works customers. Discrete Drums' acclaimed libraries are still available in a wide variety of formats, and new Discrete Drums products will be launching soon in various styles, including the Heavy Mental 2 multitrack drum library of performances by legendary drummer Tony Morra, recorded in the world famous Big Boy Room at The Sound Kitchen." "This project was born of necessity. When I tried to use drum libraries in my work as a composer/producer, I quickly found even the best sounding ones tied my hands. Others sounded so dreadful that they were useless right out of the box. One in particular was very impressive to listen to, consisting of well recorded, huge pounding rock drums, lots of reverb, and was very commanding. However, when I used these in a song, they did not work as well as I'd imagined. In some cases the reverbs were way too much, I wanted more kick, and a whole host of problems appeared. Not wanting to use a drum machine, I called some old friends, went into the studio, and Discrete Drums was born. Now that I'm ready to go back to my roots as a performing musician, Sonoma Wire Works is a great fit for taking the reigns and continuing to offer quality Discrete Drums products.

Most users now have the raw computer power to handle a lot of tracks while running some pretty powerful plug-ins. If a project starts to tax your computer, these tracks can be submixed, with or without effects, (saving CPU power), and still be exactly what you want.

We started with Series One (Rock/Alternative). Series Two (Rock/Pop/Alt) and EarthBeat continued our tradition of implementing new ideas by adding multitrack percussion loops to the multitrack drum performances.

Heavy Mental adds more tracks to the mix (slight pun intended), and Ruff Drumz (coming soon) utilizes a unique track format with distinctly different room treatments.

These collections will give you more options that you've ever had (without hiring a drummer). Up to 16 tracks of rhythm material that you can sculpt any way you like. We are proud to have been the first, it'd just never been done this way before.

So far we've been lucky enough to work with Greg Morrow, Chris McHugh, Tony Morra, and Andy Kravitz on drums, and Eric Darken on percussion.
