Make a template with drum tracks pre-panned and basic levels set.
Arrange the tracks in alphabetical order from top to bottom in your arrange window (or equivalent). In most cases when you import files, they will appear in alphabetical order. Thus, when you have a list that looks like this:
verse Kick verse OH L verse OH R verse Room L verse Room R verse Snare verse Tom L verse Tom R
If your tracks are in the same order from top to bottom, you can drag a sections worth of files to the right place simultaneously. Drag in all the sections you have imported, do a little cutting and pasting if needed, and your tracks are ready to go.
In Pro Tools, navigate to the folder you want (i.e song folder - Tripped on Funk, section -verse). Hit Command-a to select all 8 files in that folder, then hit Convert All. Repeat with all other sections you want to work with, then hit Done. Pro Tools will ask you where you want to store the imported audio files. We recommend the Audio Folder that resides in the current project. After the files have been copied to your hard disc and the waveforms have been calculated, the files will appear in the Audio Bucket and be ready to drag into the song. Also make sure that the tempo is set to match the tempo of the imported files to make arranging and overdubbing MIDI tracks easier.
Similarly, in the Logic Audio Add Audio window, Import All will import all the files in a folder at once. However, Logic will not automatically copy the files to your hard disc. You need to select all the files in the audio list window, and select Copy/Move Audio. Logic will ask you where you want to store the imported files. We suggest you create a file in the same folder as the current song to store all the audio.
For Digital Performer, Cubase, Nuendo, Cakewalk, Sonar and other digital audio sequencers, please consult your manual for import instructions.
